Teacher Testimonals

I have reviewed Dr. Trivedi’s DVD, General Chemistry version 3.3, and found it to be an excellent piece of software that teachers can use in the classroom and students can use as a textbook or for tutorial help.  The animations are excellent and my favorites are the Voltaic cell and Lewis configurations. The Voltaic cell animation is the most thorough animation I have ever seen.  If your students had this DVD, they would not have to use a textbook. There is more material on this DVD than any college chemistry textbook that I have reviewed.  The interactive part of this DVD gives your students many examples
to work and therefore get a better understanding of the concepts presented in the classroom.  At present, I use this DVD when students are absent from class. I give them the DVD and tell them to go to the section they missed and do the interactive part.  They like it. Next year I will use this DVD as my textbook.

I highly recommend it.

“The General Chemistry 3.3 Chemistry software is an innovative step forward in providing for the student an interactive way to learn general chemistry.   The interactivity is far beyond anything currently available, and students become engaged in problem sets with step-by-step solutions. The tutorial style lectures are impressively complete, and the format seems to encourage the students to spend more focused time on the subject.  In the presentations of my one and two week College Board workshops for A.P. Chemistry Instructors, I both recommend the use of the software to the participants, as well as providing hands-on opportunities to peruse the software.  In addition to use with my own my AP Chemistry students, I also use interactive portions the software with my Chemistry I students.  It is amazing how complete the material is on this one single disk!”

This chemistry DVD is an innovative product!  While it could be easily used as a replacement for a thick and expensive chemistry textbook, I have found it to be very valuable as a supplemental tool.  It is terrific as a review tool for many students.  For students who have missed time in class for one reason or another, it is absolutely irreplaceable.  Kids who have missed my discussion of a topic get to hear a variety of voices describing the chemistry.  Other students might need to hear an idea several times and this DVD allows them to hear a different set of voices presenting the chemistry after I do.  The interactive questions give all students immediate feedback as to how well they are assimilating the chemistry.  Every college and AP or honors chemistry teacher should look carefully at this DVD.

Dear Trivedi Technology:

I just wanted to express to you my thanks for creating the Chemistry 3.3 DVD. This technology has made it possible for me to have my students go home with a professor. This DVD is unlike any other teaching tool I have seen. Whatever chemistry concept we are studying in the classroom at the time is available on the DVD. My students can now go home and have a convenient way to learn the material while they review what we did in the classroom. The video clips are impressive and allow students to experience chemistry without the safety implications. The interactive problems are a great tool for corroboration of the ideas.

This DVD has proven to be an invaluable tool to my students. I hear things like “I reviewed the DVD last night and I now understand” or “ The DVD really was helpful when I used the interactive problems”. As a first year AP teacher it was comforting to know that my students had another perspective on the material and a reinforcement of classroom lecture. Your DVD has helped my students be successful in a difficult subject area. I do not understand why all high schools and colleges are not using this technology.

Thank you again and let me know when the Organic Chemistry DVD is ready.

The General Chemistry 3.3 Chemistry software is an innovative step forward in providing for the student an interactive way to learn general chemistry. I have just spent a couple of hours (more than I intended) looking at your General Chemistry DVD course, and I have to say it is the best thing of its kind I have seen. The various technology tools supplied by publishers are impoverished by comparison. I recommend this course for the student who wishes to prepare to challenge a regular university course, to prepare for standardized testing, or to learn chemistry outside a conventional lecture context. It is clearly a labor of love and you have my sincerest congratulations on your achievement as a pioneer. Sincerely, Bob Holloway

I have spent a tremendous amount of time reviewing General Chemistry Version 3.0 since our phone conversation. I have decided that it really is a good general chemistry text, and I have asked our bookstore to order it for my fall 06 general chemistry course. They will be in contact--it may be a while, because the bookstore is changing hands--new folks are coming in sometimes this summer.

"The General Chemistry DVD is an excellent and innovative product that goes far beyond the supplements that are currently bundled with General Chemistry texts. It provides a full set of General Chemistry lectures, demonstrations, examples and problem sets that are especially useful for:

  • Reviewing the material at a later time, especially in preparation for MCAT or GRE
  • Students who cannot attend all of the regular class lectures
  • Students for whom english is a second language
  • Students who may not be used to the fast pace of traditional lectures
  • A second perspective in addition to the lecture pofessor
  • Students who prefer or need a more visual means for doing homework

At Seton Hall University, we have used the DVD to assist our preparatory and general chemistry students. In one cohort of bright students from disadvantaged backgrounds, we noted significant improvement in their General Chemistry performance when the DVD was used. We are expanding its use to all our General Chemistry students and recommending it as a supplement in all our introductory chemistry classes."

"As a high school chemistry teacher, I would like to recommend the DVD textbook, General Chemistry, produced by Dr. Ketan Trivedi and Dr. Hervé Marand. My classes were a beta test site and the students loved using their DVD's. For many, it was a motivational factor, as they could use the interactive portions at home and get immediate feedback and help. For others it was a way to simplify what they were learning because they could see and hear the information at their own rates. When the first edition came out there was no question that I wanted it for my students! I have used it for two years and have not been disappointed! A student, who was doing poorly in chemistry, surprised me by making a respectable score on his Virginia Standards of Learning Chemistry Test. Later, we were talking and he brought up the fact that he had passed. He asked if I was surprised. When I answered 'yes,' he asked if I wanted to know how he did it. 'Yes,' I responded. His answer- 'I spent a week going through my DVD studying everything I had not bothered to learn in class!'"

"My Honors Chemistry students have used the latest version of the DVD in our computer lab and they really love it. I think they especially like the interactive parts, and video clips."

Student Testimonials

I like the way the DVD explains each topic in the chapters step by step. I also like how you can pause the DVD at any point if you get confused or need some time to work out a problem. I also like how in each example in the lessons there are a few problems that are explained to you then there are a few interactive problems that work you through the problems step by step. Once you have run through all that it is nice to have several practice problems with an explanation after you have answered the problem. Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into this DVD.

- Anna Newton

Dr. Trivedi,

I have taken chemistry twice since highschool. I had to withdraw from my first college chemistry class because of a poor grade. This is the first time I finally feel like I am understanding chemistry, thanks to you and your DVD. Most teachers fly through the material, just assuming that their students are understanding what they are teaching. You take the time to do examples and make sure your students really do understand the material. Your DVD also allows students to go through the material at their own pace as well. I use your DVD all the time and I love it! Thanks Dr. Trivedi!!

Hello, Dr. Trivedi!

My name is Courtney Smith and I am in your General Chemistry class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:45. I am sending you this email to let you know what I think of your DVD before you go to present it later this week. I think your DVD is awesome! I would recommend it to anyone taking Chemistry. It is very easy to understand, and I love how it is interactive. The examples and practice problems are very clear and they really help to understand the material. The thing I like the most about it is how it explains how to do EVERYTHING. No matter how simple something may seem, it is clearly explained in a way thats really easy to understand. Just to show how much I love it, I am going out to buy another DVD that is compatible with the computer back home so that my younger brother can use it when he starts high school chemistry next year. I really wish I had this DVD in high school...it would have helped me a lot! Thank you for all of the work you've put into the DVD and the class. This is definitely one of the best classes I've ever taken! Thanks for everything!! See you tomorrow! Go Hokies!

- Courtney Smith

Hey, I thought I would just write out some of my thoughts on the dvd.

The DVD is a very simple, straight forward, and interactive way to learn chemistry.   If you can't learn chemistry from the DVD, there is something wrong.

- Laird Horigan

I absolutely love your DVD. It is very hard for me to learn from a book and your interactive DVD helps me to understand the material so well. I like how you use different voices, colors and animations. One of the best aspects of your DVD is the interactive practice problems with the solutions. Offering the step-by-step solutions really helps me to   understand how to solve the problem. I wish I had a DVD like yours for every class that I take.

Thank you so much,

- Brianna Marie Hughes

I wanted to give you some feedback on the chemistry DVD. In my opinion, it is one of the best learning tools I have used. I personally find chemistry to be very complex requiring a lot of memorizing. As a result of using this DVD, chemistry has come more naturally to me as the interactive and repetitive nature of this DVD ensures absorption of the material. Ever since my freshman year in high school, I have talked up the idea of electronic textbooks with fellow students and instructors. I believe that they are without a doubt the future of learning. Computers are amazing tools that we all interact with on a daily basis. This is also true in the modern workplace. Industries have realized and captured the immense power of computers. Unfortunately, the integration of computers into the learning process has not been as rapid. I believe that students would greatly gain from interactive electronic learning tools such as Dr. Trivedi's chemistry DVD. The DVD is not merely an electronic version of the written book, it is an interactive and challenging electronic classroom. Even though the DVD is not perfectas of yet, I would choose this leading edge learning tool over a conventional textbook in any of my courses.

- Francis

Basically, your DVD has changed my chemistry life. I am not being sarcastic. Most of the concepts we have been learning this year were very difficult for me to grasp last year in my AP Chem class back at high school. Chemistry seemed just daunting to me. But your DVD makes it very understandable to say the least. Further, your style of teaching is absolutely unbelievable. Your ability to answer questions in a class of five or six hundred is just incredible. Most professors teaching classes of this magnitude are apathetic about the questions their students might have. TO say the least you have already impacted my views on chemistry. Thank you very much.

- John Luke Driessnack

Hi Trivedi,

I would like to let you know how much I appreciate your chemistry DVD. When in class, I understand everything you teach. However, I learn and remember by solving problems. Not only does the DVD have many problems to allow this practice, it shows how to apply the lecture material to the problems. This is the major issue that I have in learning and the DVD nails this obstacle.

Thanks for all your hard work,

- Matthew Enniss

Dear professor,

Thankyou for making you chemisrty DVD. It is awesome.   I love how it is so straight-forward and comprehensive. I never though learning chemistry could ever be this easy.   I would only ask that you include better directions for installing it...

Professor Trivedi,

I'm sure my opinion of your DVD is consistent with the rest of the general input, but I love it!! From the opening of the DVD, everything is simple and organized. Every section of every chapter is laid out well -- opening with an introduction and adding topics onto that. Everything is also explained well with applied graphics, helpful videos and useful tables. The most beneficial part of this DVD is the extra practice/questions section. There are ample problems to establish an understanding of the section. If you cannot calculate the right answer, the solutions can be worked out right in front of you. The worked out solutions are a lot better than those found in textbooks because the DVD audibly and visually explains where each step of the solution comes from.

Overall, the DVD package is a win-win situation. It is more convenient and helpful than any textbook could be. Plus, it comes in a small box in which you can easily tote a periodic table (included) and other important papers (i.e. homework, etc.) inside.

Sincerely,

- Jeremiah Shiflet

I personally feel that the DVD is a great way supplement to Professor Trivedi's lecture.   It gives me the opportunity to get a step-by-step explanation of anything that I may not have understood in class that day.

Also, I found the practice problems extremely helpful for our first test. With textbooks I exhaust possible question pretty quickly; but the DVD has so many that I don't have that problem.   If I had to suggest some changes to the DVD it would be to provide solutions for all the practice problems just so you can check yourself and unify the voices more.   I find the voices kind of annoying so I always work with the sound muted but if they were from the same person I probably would not.   Overall,   I am really glad we use this instead of a heavy, expensive text book! Thanks Professor Trivedi and all those that helped him produce the DVD,

- Alex Schiavoni

Dr. Trivedi,

Your DVD is the greatest learning tool I have ever experience for any science course I have taken.   It does not over-complicate things, yet it does not try to make things too simple.   You are a genious.

Thanks!

- Derek Shickel

Hey Mr. Trivedi

I am writing you this email about your DVD. I would just like to say that the DVD is better than most books on any text book, i have ever read. The basic reason for that is the inter-activeness of the DVD. When one reads about something in text books the book doesn't; 1. read to you, 2. replies to queries, 3. has questions with the answer and explanations with examples like videos, animations, audio etc. Bottom lime is that it is easy to use, and has tremendously helped me prepare for tests and be better prepared for lectures.

Regards,

- Suyash Das
Student

This was the first course I have ever taken with a   DVD rather than a textbook and I think it has helped me a lot.   The DVD supplies the student with the necessary information and nothing more.   Rather than reading a lot of material to learn a concept, one can simply watch the specific DVD section and learn it very quickly.   In addition, the number of practice problems are also a great help.   The fact that they have solutions are even better.   This helps the student to learn what mistakes he or she is making. Overall, the DVD is much better than any textbook would ever be.

Very Respecfully,

- Micah Hafich

Dr. Trivedi

You asked us to write about our likes and dislikes about the dvd.   The thing I most like about the dvd is the virtually unlimited bank of practice questions.   I love that when I do not get the correct answer how some problems will show exactly how to work out the problem and it also makes sure that you input data while solving it.   For students like me who learn by doing, many practice problems allows us to keep going for hours if needed and get different questions each time until we understand the subject.   One thing I think would be an improvement is an ability to practice a timed test and have it set so that you do not know what you missed until the end of a test.   That is the only thing that I have found that could be improved upon.   I would sugguest that you share this with some of your collegues here because I have ran into fellow General Chemistry students that are debating getting the dvd even though it is not needed for their class.   I like how for the sections for balancing equations I can play with the Periodic Table and it will write the formulas for compounds or molecules.   The experiments included in some of the lessons help keep the dvd entertaining while being educational at the same time.   Thank you for making this dvd instead of writing a book.   It is not only lighter on the back but also more interactive/fun.

- Travis Anderson

Dear professor Trivedi,

The DVD has been a huge help this semester. It has prepared me for the tests with it's numerous practice problems and guided me from confusion with the notes and lectures. The use of different methods allowed it to really help me, letting me read, hear, and interact, using several portions of my brain over and over to get it in. I know that this DVD has not only helped me but my friends as well, on several occasions I lent the DVD to my friends and the results were very good. One of my friends, after studying with the DVD, came to my room to return the disk and profoundly said that he was going to "ace" the test and that the DVD was a big help. He even said that he would purchase one for the next semester of chemistry. Thank you for making the dick professor, I truly think that it was a great effort and it paid off very well.

-Stephen Via

Dr. Trivedi,

My name is Christine Onidi, and I am currently using the DVD and I find it to be very helpful in learning the concepts. The week before a test I go through each chapter designed and do the practice problems for review and found it helps a lot when coming to taking the test. I would continue to use the DVD. Also, I am currently in your 1035, and would be interested in taking your 1036. I am a chemistry major and would appreciate it very much if you could force add me to your 11356 class, seeing it is the only class that fits my schedule next semester and I would like to continue with you as my instructor. Thank You Very Much.

-Christine Onidi

Dr. Trivedi,

I found the DVD incredibly helpful.  I decided to use the DVD instead of the book, and I think I am doing well with just the DVD. The DVD instructs how to do everything and makes the information very clear and understandable. I find the practice problems to be very efficient. There are practice problems for every type of concepts we have learned, and there is a also a wide array of them. It is good to have so many practice problems at hand, because I understand the concepts better if I can work through the problems several times and see what I am doing wrong. Thus, the interactive solutions are extremely useful because they go through step by step how to solve the problems. Doing the practice problems before each test has helped me do pretty well on the tests.  The actual sections of the DVD are informative and are conveyed in a comprehensive manner. I feel I have learned a great deal from using the DVD for this Chemistry class. I look forward to using it next semester as well!

-Sonia Gill

Dear Trivedi,

The dvd was very helpful. It was an excellent review of the material we covered in class and the practice problems were extremely helpful I highly recommend Dr. Trivedi’s DVD. Chemistry can be very difficult to study for, however, his DVD breaks every concept down into simpler terms. I believe that I have succeeded in the chemistry class because the combination of visuals and step by step breakdown of chemistry problems on the DVD.  There are so many practice problems to work through which show you the solutions and exactly how to do the problems.  Using a book does not even compare to using the DVD because a book does not interactively explain how to do the problems. The DVD is a wonderful way to learn chemistry and definitely helped to prepare me for exams.

-Allison Fluke

I thought that the DVD was helpful at times to review when you missed a concept in class. It was nice to be able to do practice problems along with it too. I liked how it not just told you the right answer but guided you through the problem too. I also liked it too because it was cheaper than the book so it saved some money. I did not run into any problems installing it on my Mac either which was nice. The chapters in the DVD could be confusing sometimes correlating it to what we were doing in class but I eventually figured it out. It was helpful when you announced in class what chapters on the DVD we were at too. Thank you, Megan Mauer mmauer@vt.edu. I LOVE the DVD, it makes studying a lot easier.

-Elisabeth Stiley

The DVD is very helpful. It is easy to use and convenient. The questions on the DVD were also good. The DVD was very helpful throughout the entire year. It was like having someone tutor you in your own room! you can use it at your own leisure and at your own speed. I thought that this DVD is a major reason why i am successfully understanding chemistry! I really like the DVD that you have for this class. I like how there are many practice problems and audio to go with the answers.

Thank you!

I found the General Chemistry DVD very helpful in learning the usually complex material. It broke things down, and it was like having the lecture right at your fingertips complete with diagrams and interactive problems. I would definitely recommend this DVD over the textbook which made the concepts overwhelming and confusing.I really like using the DVD instead of the text book. It is alot easier to learn when there is set by set procedures showing you the proper way to answer the questions. What I dont like about the dvd is how the voices change all the time and that my videos will not show up on my computer for some reason. the notes button doesn't work either. Other then that the dvd is a great idea and makes learning chem much eaiser.

-Rob Post

I think the dvd is great. The features allow me to study the concept step by step, and can pause anytime if I want to. I haven't found any faults yet.

- Tian Zeng

The DVD is useful for your class. It's cheaper than the textbook and lighter. It's easy to use and the interactive capability helps reinforce what I learn. I don't use the DVD that much; I only use it for sections I am unsure of, but I definitely think it's a great alternative to a textbook.

 Sincerely,

-August Sarrol

My name is Erin Littleton and I am in your class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:45pm. Kirsten Scott informed me about emailing you. As a student who has taken three years of chemistry (two of inorganic, one of organic, all including labs) I feel like I have a good understanding of chemistry. Even though most of the material that we are learning now is a review for me, I honestly think that the DVD is an excellent source. Through my experience with chemistry, it is essential to have interactive problem solving in order to gain the understanding of the concepts. The DVD has a ton of practice problems with an option to have interactive solutions. I also love the movie clips of the reactions performed. When I go back home, I was going to show my chemistry teachers the DVD to see what they think. I really think that the DVD is helping a lot of students understand chemistry with less of a hassle and it also makes a great review for me. Since the DVD is very well organized, I can go straight to the practice problems or to a concept that I don't quite remember. I honestly can't say anything bad about the DVD because no matter if you're just learning chemistry or have had years of it, the DVD has what you need. If you have any questions feel free to email me or talk to me in class. Here is some feedback on your Chemistry DVD. I think that this DVD is extremely helpful for students to follow along with outside of class. It offers interactive problems and solutions, teaches the student all of the basics of Chemistry and the necessary formulas and rules that we need to know. Everything you need to know about Chemistry is all on that one DVD. You have the periodic table and videos. It uses different types of media to keep the student engaged in learning, by not using the typical read and learn method. Overall, all of the hard work that was put into making this DVD has paid off!

Sincerely,

-Liz L.

While a text book gives me pictures, explanations, and example problems; it never really teaches you. The DVD on the other hand has written flash presentations, interactivity, short movie clips and more. The DVD explains to me the topic, goes over the topic, gives me a movie of the topic, and then gives me problems and questions to do.   These are extremely helpful for me to study for the test, and gain a better knowledge of the material. If I had a choice I would have a DVD for every class, but unfortunately we live in the real world and will never happen. Overall the DVD is very simple to use, easy to learn the difficult material, and more enhanced then the average course text book. The general Chemistry DVD has been very helpful to me in my first year of college level chemistry. What I enjoy about it is the level of interaction and the amount of control I have when I am using it. If I'm confused or need to hear an explanation again, I can very simply click an arrow to do so. I typically use it to brief myself on a subject before coming to lecture. This way I am prepared for what will be lectured on, and I can keep up with the speed of the class rather than frantically write notes.Another benefit of the DVD is the amount of problems it has along with worked out solutions. It is like having a personal tutor in my dorm room with me. The interactive problems break it down into its individual steps, therefore teaching me the thought process and easiest way to solve the problem. The DVD is particularly good for learning the tedious memorization that is needed such as the elements, naming compounds, and solubility rules. By generating random questions on these subjects, I can actively learn through trial and error rather than just starring at my notes memorizing rules. I think that is the biggest benefit of the DVD: it requires you to be an active learner. It takes a lot of effort for a college student to find the motivation to open their textbook, read through the chapter, and wrestle with the problems. The Chemistry DVD uses technology our generation is used to and turns chemistry into a "computer game". At first I was a little hesitant about the DVD. Its a novel idea, and I was uncomfortable not having worksheets of problems to turn in. However, I quickly realized how convienent it really is. It's also a lot lighter than those heavy textbooks!

Thanks!

-Melissa Bertosh

In response to your request for an evaluation of the DVD, I thought I would share some thoughts about it with you. The DVD has been extremely helpful in my studies in Chemistry. It is very helpful with conveying the conceptual ideas as well as the mathematical approaches to the problems. The Step-by-Step instructions that can be paused or rewound are extremely helpful. The only problem is that sometimes it takes a while to load, but I can understand the amount of sound bites that are included in the DVD so it is not an unreasonable tradeoff. The Interactive problems as well as the Step-by-Step solution problems help the student understand the solutions by going through it in great detail. It makes the information provided in lectures available when we need them. The videos included also help to convey the point of the lectures and makes things even easier to understand. There are so many differing Practice problems that studying for tests is easy. There is always a problem that will be similar to one that you might be tested on.

Overall the DVD is comprehensive and extremely helpful. My name is Giselle Rodriguez and I am in you T and R Chem 1035 class from 330-445. I am writing you an email to let you know that this dvd has honestly saved my life. I came up to you today after the test asking you about the typo with planks constant and whether or not we should used the typo version or the negative 34(trying to put a face on my name for you).   Regardless, I hated chemistry my whole life and because of this dvd I get almost excited for tests. The interactive problems are by far the best your dvd has to offer, especially when you have NO idea how the computer got the answer it did, the solution button gave me step by step explanations. I stayed up untill around 400 in the morning doing the interactive problems, not so much because I needed to learm the material since I make every class, but because they are seemingly addicting, especially when you get the answers right and breeze right though them it makes you want to do them even more. Im not usually ecstatic or excitable when it comes to school but just giving you some feed back, the chem dvd has me hooked. I even bought a 2nd copy and sent it to a struggling friend at UVA, its getting around.

I think the DVD is wonderful. For the past test, I went through my class notes a couple of times and then did a ton of DVD practice problems. The problems truly tested the notes I studied. If I couldn't understand a problem, it was extremely helpful having a solution displayed step by step. As I said, I did this for Test 2, not Test 1. Test 1 I got a 68% and Test 2 I got a 88%, I was very pleased with the results.

-Shanna Shull

The DVD is an overall good choice for learning chemestry cheaper than printed text it has memorable ways of teaching (calcium) calsssium if you fall asleep while listening to the lesson.. it doesnt really matter because you can always replay it (unlike class time) You can pause the lecture and study the writing (text) or you can mute the DVD and learn just by reading easy interactability allows for "hands on" learning without the expense of tangible materials Plenty of problems with step by step explanations You (the student) can decide when and how much of chemistry you feel you can take on at that particular time

However I would never say that the DVD can totally replace a professor maybe a class of half - DVD - half - professor would work in a great way but never just the DVD It is possible to incorporate some written problems with the DVD or even a study guide to make sure you know all of the important points this would appeal to the paper learners rather than have it all geared torwards the computer screen learners..

The DVD can be percieved as a good way to teach merely because it leaves no room for instructor error... the DVD is right and says the same thing in many different ways consistantly (no take backs only correct the first time) Hopefully I have helped, but I am sure that I left something out. Your DVD has been very helpful in studying and learning chemistry because it thoroughly explains every lesson if it was not clear to a student before. In my opinion, the best feature of the DVD is the interactive practice problems and solutions it offers at the end of the lessons. These problems allow you to check your understanding of the material. You can do as many problems as you would like at your own pace until you feel confident about the material. If a question is answered incorrectly the DVD offers a solution which shows you exactly how to work out the problem. This is a nice feature since a text book will not do that for you. Another advantage of the DVD over a textbook is the optional voice that can be heard on it since hearing things as well as reading them can help one to remember what was done. I would much rather study from the DVD than have to read from a text book. In general, I think the DVD causes less frustration and makes chemistry easier to learn!

-Stephanie Sysak

"If I had to rate the usefulness and overall effectiveness of the DVD on a scale of 1-10, I would definitely give it 9.5. I like the fact I can concentrate on the lecture in class and then when I get home I can copy notes on the material from the DVD. The movies of experiments help me to better grasp a specific concept. I think the DVD will revolutionize the way that information is introduced in the classroom. From the first day that I stepped in the classroom, I knew that this learning experience was going to be very different from anything I have experienced in the past"

- Christopher H.

"The DVD is a refreshing break from the traditional textbook as it provides the student with a very compact form of media that is a wonderful learning tool. The DVD not only provides visual learning as a textbook does, but it goes two steps further, it provides a wide array of audio commentary and an interactive learning process that allows the students to practice their learning. This form of learning allows the student to see, hear and practice the material that is presented. In my opinion, this approach is most effective as it covers all three types of learning. I have found myself learning the material faster and in more detail than if I had simply read the textbook. I like the fact that the DVD goes at the student's pace-fast, slow or even rewinding when necessary."

- Keith H.

"Concerning the DVD, I think it's a great way to learn. Instead of carrying heavy textbooks around, you can just carry your laptop around and study. Also, while in the car, you can listen to the audio and learn as you are driving."

- Nam N.

"I found the DVD to be very helpful"

"This is the first time that I have ever used a learning device such as the Chemistry DVD, Dr. Trivedi and his team has put together, and I loved it. I like this textbook and outside-the-class learning tool. It is definitely more interesting than a normal textbook, and the interactive slides are perfect for engraving the objective in our minds. By this being so, I find myself studying more and understanding the concepts better. The DVD is the best learning tool I've ever used!"

- Leah T.

"I find the DVD to be an incredibly effective teaching tool. The use of audio and visual instruction methods makes [memorizing] much easier and makes the material easier to recall. The practice problems are also very helpful. Being able to know whether or not you understand when you try the problems on your own is priceless, not to mention the guided practice before the true practice problem."

- Andrew C.

"The DVD you made is going to be the future teaching. It is better than textbooks in many ways. The most obvious of these are the interactive problems and the praticed problems. The interactive problems force a level of concentration that the textbook can only hope for. While on the other hand the practice problems provide instant gratification for those willing to work them. The way they are set-up, in a multiple-choice fashion, provides a test-like environment that allows you to see what you need to study. They also provide a step-by-step solution that starts from scratch with every step so you can find out where you went wrong on the problem. This DVD provides an interactive way to study and learn that is right now unequaled by any other learning device that I have encountered"

- Daniel D.

"This DVD is so much better than a book because I spend half of my time studying, actually going through the book and pulling out the info I need. The DVD just lays it out there for anyone to learn. It is very straightforward and does not waste my time. I may not receive an A in this class, but I'm positive that I will come away from this course with a much more comprehensive, and more importantly, lasting understanding of chemistry. I have also much more confidence tackling challenging problems. I believe that the DVD idea should and will branch into other subjects because of its versatility."

- Anthony C.

"The DVD is a great way to reinforce what you learn in class, as well as what you may miss. The interaction keeps you alert and focused on what you are trying to do. I would recommend the DVD for any class, whether it is by satellite or on campus!"

- Chelsea S.

"The material in each slide is presented in a concise manner. There is never extraneous information to confuse the student ...each "slide" is complete with narration from an assortment of voices to demonstrate different means of pronunciation and to show how global chemistry is."

- Curtis C.

"It keeps my attention more than reading a textbook would. What really helps [me] are the practice problems."

- James C.
